Heathcote Wine and Food Festival

After our fire brigade enlistment, we headed to the little town of Heathcote, about 30 minutes away. This was the seventh year of this event and offered much to see, do and taste. This region is home to a very eclectic lot of wine varieties and styles which we were quite well prepared for thanks to our US instructors....the Arenas, Vitellos and Phillips. Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Viognier, Tempranillo, Marsanne, Roussanne, Merlot, Cabernet, Rose, Chardonnay met our stringent standards. Many were new varieties/tastes for us, and well worth the experience. Kath Carrol, Denise's sister, was a very good (bordering on too good) wine tour host. Kath works for Flynns Wines in Heathcote (booth in the photos).

Ah, but what of the kids? As the pictures can attest, bored as usual! Now, before the story gets blown out of proportion, the mob of kids at the Festival did beat the mob of parents in tug of war 2 out of 3 times. However, due to the drought, the grass didn't provide proper resistance like you'd expect a footy oval to provide. That is quite true. Nearly all the parents agreed with Bodie's plight.
