The bushfires this past week have drawn attention from around the world. At this point, 750 homes destroyed and the death toll is expected to now reach above 200. We are all still in a state of shock about what has happened over the past 48 hours.
Our town of Bendigo lost 50 homes. Heather enacted our bushfire plan for the house (filling tubs and basins with water and running hoselays around the house, etc). Heather and the kids did a phenomenal job in preparing to shelter in place. The fires on Saturday were close, but never made it to the house. 35 bushfires are still burning in the state tonight so not out of the woods yet.
Bodie was in Perth, Western Australia and cut his trip short and returned today. He is back for tonight, but heading to Melbourne in the morning to stay and orchestrate the US deployment coming over to assist.
These pictures do not do this situation justice. We've never seen such devastation. Complete towns wiped out; utter devastation. Unfortunately, most were lit by arsonists.

Bodie & Family: Thank goodness you're safe. I lost the address to your blog when my laptop crashed, then heard the news about Australia's fires and finally found your blog again. My heart goes out to everyone in danger, and those who have lost loved ones or homes. Fire people in the USA are thinking of you all...
Dear Heather, Bodie and family,
Wow!!!!! Mom sent me the link to your blog...so glad you are safe. What a fire!!!!!! It must be amazing and so frightening to witness such a beast. Take good care of yourselves, please.
All of my love,
Shannon

Heather and Bodie: You've both been in my prayers. What a terrible scary disaster to be so close to. I think it's even worst to know they were set by arsonist! It was great to quickly be able to find out how you were doing via your blog. Got your postcard, putting on a display at CCNA annual meeting, wish you were here to help! Oh, how the kids are growing....Take care
