Bendigo Pottery: Fun With Clay!

Bendigo Pottery is Australia's oldest working pottery and true Australian icon. It was established in 1858, making all of this year's events very Sesqui (shortened for aussie slang). Our highlights included the interactive museum tour and pottery selection in the 3 acre store, having the kids make their own plates, and Dad losing years off his life as the kids cavorted with the pottery in the store. As you can tell by the photos, each of ours had very distinctive painting flairs: Ladybugs (Mad), the Australian Continent (Bren) and the Talking Tram being attacked by a Decepticon (Cam). Even though the kids had way too much fun (clay in their knickers), Heather had even more so by shopping and experiencing such a great place. We may be shareholders now.

Cam had to have some more of that Talking Tram, so after the Pottery stop, we took a stroll through the Tram Museum. The Bendigo Tramways have been in operation since June 1890. From that time, the citizens of Bendigo have experienced battery, steam and electric traction as the principal modes of propulsion for their trams. Due to other transportation preferences(cars), the Trams were put out of commission in early 1972. By late 1972, Bendigo recognized the historical connection to the Trams and instituted a Vintage Talking Tram tourist service between the Central Deborah Gold Mine in Violet Street, through Bendigo and on to the Chinese Joss House at North Bendigo. Cameron Palmer could not be happier!
