Goldmines and Talking Trams......only in Bendigo!

We got caught up in the Spring Break activities locally today. We purchased tickets for the Bendigo Tour Experience: Central Deborah/Nana Goldmine tour, Vintage Talking Tram tour, Bendigo Pottery Museum, and the Golden Dragon Museum. We were able to spread these out over two days thankfully, because we nearly didn't make it out from the depths of the goldmine.....it was truly fantastic!

Bendigo was home to one of the world's most exciting gold rushes, with more gold found here between 1850 and 1900 than anywhere else in the world. We donned our hard hats, lamps and descended 61 metres below the surface (total depth is over 460 metres). A bit cool and damp, but well worth all the ghostly attempts of some fathers present to scare us (in the dark, unlit caverns) as we tried to pay attention to the tour guide. We relaxed the rest of the day riding on and listening to a talking tram around Bendigo. It enlightened us to the streetscapes and grand architectural masterpieces of Bendigo. It also took us to Australia's oldest working tram depot where we saw trams dating back to the 1890s. Tomorrow we will spend the rest of our Bendigo tour at the Pottery and Golden Dragon museum. Heather won't be able to sleep tonight......it is like Christmas Eve!

Hi Shaw family,
Loving your updates. Glad you are getting to see so much of your local Bendigo attractions. We must do the same when we get back. You know how it is, you never see all there is on offer in your own home town.
Go Bombers!! Our AFL team for those who dont understand the commitment of Australian fans to their footy.
