Spring Stroll in the Bendigo Bush

After the Footy Final, we needed a day to hang around the local area and explore. La Trobe University and the local Department of Sustainability and the Environment (DSE) sponsored a bush walk in Dead Dog Gully, just outside of Bendigo. The area we covered was originally occupied for thousands of years by the Djadja Wurrung people until European arrival. (NOTE: throughout our travels in AUS so far, events are always begun with respect given to local aboriginal ties to the area. Very impressive.) Beautiful area with great flora, including 7 different eucalyptus species, many wattles, orchids and other natives. Ava fauna included Spotted Pardalotes, Miners, Honey Eaters, Red Wattle and the Australian versions of both the Raven and Magpie. All in all, a beautiful day (highs in the lower 20s), great BBQ sponsored by the DSE, and once again, met some fantastic members of the local community. And no, we never found the sacrificial canine.
