It was a long time coming (six months from the day we left in fact), but the Shaw Family finally made it back Down Under. We landed in Brisbane, Queensland on Sept 20 at 6am, struggling to stay up until 6pm before we called it a day. It was no surprise that we were all up at 2am eating rissoles and doing homework and presentation finalization!
The first week was taking in the Australasian Fire Authorities Council conference where Bodie was invited to present on his exchange. Heather and the kids got to catch-up with old friends (from Madras, Oregon (the Calvins) as well as folks from around our visits in OZ) and take in some beautiful beaches on the Gold Coast of Australia........that is until the big Dust Storm rolled in on Wednesday the 23rd. We blame it on Bodie giving his speech as well as Brendan'a birthday! A couple of highlights from Bodie's speech included pointing out it was Brendan's birthday during his intro (packed house, standing room only as Brendan beamed from ear to ear), and presenting the Country Fire Authority's Chief Officer (Russell Rees) and the Mosquito Creek Brigade with a plaque for their participation in Bodie's job exchange for 2008-2009).
We will share more photos soon on the Great Barrier Reef and the homecoming in Victoria soon!
Cheers all!
