Our Week in Kennett River on the Great Ocean Road

Christmas in Australia has been absolutely wonderful. We weren't quite sure what to expect, so we were ready for the unexpected. Having Christmas in Kennett River on the beach was just icing on the cake. Kennett River is a small seaside town in Victoria, Australia. Situated 174 kilometres west of Melbourne, on the Otway Coast part of the scenic Great Ocean Road. Just happens to be 309 kilometres from our home in Axedale. See what happens when Bodie has too much time with a GPS?

As we called friends and family in the US, it just made us all that much warmer. Out of respect, Bodie, Madison and Brendan took the Polar Bear Plunge in the ocean (Bass Strait) on Christmas morning.......and stayed in because the waters were so warm. Many hours of body surfing were conducted every day and then we would all head back to our forest retreat (Jirrupin) to take in the awesome critters.

Speaking of critters, our favorites had to be the Kookaburras (who took food from us on the fly....and let out their raucous laughter afterwards) and "Shadow", the crook Koala bear we came to know and love. After a couple of days of Shadow setting up shop on a stump in the back yard, we finally called a wildlife rescue agency who came and picked up Shadow and said she'd be fine (fever). Maddy and Bren did the bulk of feeding Shadow, with her taking a few kilos of eucalyptus leaves off their willing hands. All too cool!

Cheers all.......and have a Happy New Year!
