Bananabenders........Our Friends in Queensland

After my time in the Northern Territories, I was off to Brisbane, Queensland (QLD) for visits with Queensland Parks and Wildlife (thank you very much Peter, Paula and Jess), Queensland Fire and Rescue Services and Queensland Forest Plantations.

Primarily I spent most of my time with Peter Leeson, the Forest Fire Management Group representative from QLD. Peter is the statewide fire director for Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS). QPWS has the responsibility for both protecting environmental values and managing fire on the protected area estate in Queensland. This estate includes national parks, forest reserves, and state forests.

As with the Northern Territories, Queensland was not yet a signatory to the US Agreement. Part of this trip was spent familiarizing them with the US wildfire program, and then in turn, QLD enlightening me to their respective programs.

A very enjoyable end to a 22 day trip (New South Wales, Northern Territories and Queensland). At the end of my stay, I lodged overnight next door to the Australia Zoo (Crikey.....the late Steve Irwin's place). Didn't have a chance to explore though. Enjoy!

PS--Bananabender; a term of endearment for folks from Queensland.
