As I start to ramp up my visits to other States/Territories for US Agreements prior to the middle of Australia's bushfire season, a visit to NSW was in order. NSW is no stranger to extreme bushfires. Rural Sydney had major fires in 1994, 2002 and 2006.
I spent a day each with the NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Rural Fire Brigades, NSW Forests and the NSW Parks and Wildlife departments respectively. All four have legislative responsibilities in NSW for bushfire management. All four also sent representatives to the US this past season to help us.
A very progressive mindset for resource management exists with all these departments and it was truly a pleasure to be hosted by the respective departments. It is quite apparent that we have so much to learn from each other. A lot of inroads were developed this week. Let's see what we can do with them. Cheers! Bodie
